Music
Vision Statement:
Our vision is to give all children the opportunity access to a high-quality music education which engages and inspires them to develop a life-long love of music, increases their self-confidence, creativity, imagination and provides opportunities for self-expression and a sense of personal achievement. Music is a language. Every culture makes music which speaks to us in different ways; it creates strong feelings, builds memories and ignites passion. Our children will experience playing an instrument and experimenting with the sounds they make and the joy of learning to play as a group, to listen to rhythm and read musical notation and to evaluate compositions. Children will enjoy singing as a collective group, as a community which sings to celebrate and help us enjoy and remember our days at school.
Our school bases the core work in music around the National Curriculum which aims to ensure that all pupils:
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
- learn to sing and to use their voices to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
- understand and explore how music is created, produced, communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
