You may be aware that on Tuesday next week, cyclists will be travelling through Whickham as part of the Tour of Britain (Gateshead – Kendal 106 mile East to West route). We are going to join Gateshead School Sports Partnership and other local schools in celebrating the event by supporting the cyclists at a point near to us on the route.

Children are therefore asked to make a flag at home over the weekend on the template attached to today’s newsletter and return it to school on Monday.

On Tuesday 10 September, we will leave school at 10.45am and walk (as a whole school) to the corner where Broom Lane meets Whaggs Lane. At that point, we will wait for the cyclists and as they pass (estimated time between 11.21 – 11.23am) where we will cheer and wave our flags. We will return to school in time for normal lunchtime arrangements. We would be very grateful for the support of as many parents/grandparents as possible to join us for this event so if you can attend, please arrive at school for 10.40am on Tuesday.

Helicopters will be circulating to film the whole event, so we would like to create a visual display on our school field to be seen from the sky! To support with this, we would be grateful if as many children as possible could bring their bikes in to school on Tuesday morning.
